I decided to quit my job and embark on a cross-country journey. After I'm done with the US, I may even venture out internationally. Check here for signs that I'm still alive...

If I Had A Boat
7/5/15 Walked another ~1 mile of the Kennebec River Rail Trail today before driving from Augusta to Camden to board the Angelique for my 4-night windjammer cruise. Stopped at two wineries along the way: Savage Oakes and Sweetgrass (also a distillery). Walked around Camden a bit while waiting to be able to board the boat. After checking in at the boat, I was invited to a BBQ by one of my new shipmates, Carol. She had just finished one cruise and was going to be going on this one, too. She had helped with the pre-season work to get the boat ready earlier this year. While working on that, she stayed with a woman (Lisa) that lived in Rockport. Turns out that Lisa knew and worked with the designer of the Angelique. It's crazy the way things work out. Stayed aboard the ship for the night because we set sail early the next morning...

Early start this morning due to the tide so we could get out of Camden Harbor. We traveled ~50 miles according to Capt. Dennis from Camden Harbor to Southwest Harbor. Along the way, we stopped at Little Camp Island for the lobster bake. I, of course, was unable to eat any of the lobster, but from the looks on everyone's faces, the lobsters were delicious; people may or may not have eaten multiple lobsters...One of the main things you need to know about these cruises is that the food is delicious - all 3 meals of the day. They're also really nice about accommodating food allergies (like mine for seafood or another shipmate's of gluten). The accommodation does come with a little teasing, though, all in good fun.

We awoke this morning and headed ashore for our bus tour of Acadia National Park. We had a great tour guide (Heather) who had lots of great info both historical and natural, and cheesy jokes. We drove through the park and stopped at Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, and the summit of Cadillac Mountain. After we returned to the boat, we traveled ~22 miles to WoodenBoat Harbor to anchor for the night. The fog rolled in disrupting any view of anything beyond the boat. We had a guitar sing-along that started out with songs by various artists, but by the end of the night had become all Beatles songs.
This is how we get ashore...

The fog cleared up over the course of the morning. We went ashore to check out The WoodenBoat School where they teach people how to make their own wooden boats. After wandering around there for a bit, we went back to the boat and sailed ~35 miles to Gilkey Harbor. Along the way, we got some line from the lobster pots caught in one of the engines (named Heckle and Jeckle). When we anchored in Gilkey Harbor, Capt Dennis threw on some scuba gear to go detangle, then spent quite a bit of time in the engine room.

Another early morning start to ensure we were back in Camden Harbor by 09:00 due to the tide. Sad to leave the boat, the awesome crew, and the interesting people from around the country I met aboard, but excited to continue on my journey. After clearing off the boat, I went with two shipmates (Meghan and Jenn) to the top of Mount Battie. We then headed to CellarDoor Winery and Breakwater Vineyards. We had lunch at Archer's in Rockland, then headed back to Camden stopping at a church thrift store along the way, I continued on my way to South Portland, ME.
