I decided to quit my job and embark on a cross-country journey. After I'm done with the US, I may even venture out internationally. Check here for signs that I'm still alive...

God's Country
8/10/15
Visited Lincoln's Home - the only one he owned apparently, and the one where he accepted the nomination for president. Had some lunch and tried some beers at Obed and Isaac's Microbrewery and Eatery - good strawberry ale and cider. Then visited the Lincoln Presidential Museum - they have some very neat exhibits including a 4-minute changing map that shows the territory changes during the Civil War. After that visited Lincoln's Tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery before heading to St. Louis. When I got to St. Louis, I went to dinner with a friend that I hadn't seen in many years.
Back Parlor in Lincoln's House - the room where he accepted the nomination to run for president
Lincoln's desk in his bedroom - he probably wrote a lot of speeches here
Mary Lincoln's bedroom - yup, they had separate bedrooms which apparently translated as a luxury back then
The kitchen
Lincoln's House - it started as one story, then they added an addition
Even Lincoln was vilified by the opposition in his day...
Lincoln's Headstone inside the tomb - it actually doesn't mark where he's buried. He's actually buried behind a wall behind where I'm standing ten feet down.

Visited The Arch and went to the top. You ride up in a little pod to the top. They have a pretty good documentary that discusses how it was built - kind of amazing that it exists actually. It's apparently the 50th Anniversary since it was completed. Also visited the Old Courthouse - the same courthouse where the Dred Scott case started on April 6, 1846. Went by City Museum - cool place, especially for kids, but I felt kinda weird being there by myself...Drove across MIMAL's chest to Kansas City to sleep in a "flying bed"...we'll see if I injure myself somehow during the night or in the morning...

So apparently it was Saint Louis Bread Co first & became Panera when they went national...

**I've been using Airbnb some during this trip to find places to stay along the way. If you haven't tried it, check it out for your next trip (even internationally). Usually cheaper than a hotel...and if you have some extra space, rent it out and make some money! (https://www.airbnb.com/)**
