I decided to quit my job and embark on a cross-country journey. After I'm done with the US, I may even venture out internationally. Check here for signs that I'm still alive...

Under The Bridge
8/4/15
Visited Mackinac Island today. You have to get there via ferry, and they don't allow motorized vehicles on the island (aside from emergency vehicles for fire/EMS/police and some forklifts). The way to get around is either walking, biking, horseback, or carriage. I took a carriage tour that also went through the state park. According to the guide, Mackinac Island was the first national park, and then it was sold to MI where it became their first state park. The carriage tour went by the Grand Hotel, cemetery (a catholic one, a protestant one, and the post one for military - their flag is always flown at half staff because they have some soldiers buried there that they can't identify), Skull Cave, Arch Rock, Fort Mackinac, and the governor's summer house. Wandered around the downtown area a bit before heading back to mainland to drive to Escanaba. The highway goes through Hiawatha National Forest.

The medical center for the island - only has one physician on-staff for 3-month rotations; they have at least 3 vets for all the horses, though...

**I've been using Airbnb some during this trip to find places to stay along the way. If you haven't tried it, check it out for your next trip (even internationally). Usually cheaper than a hotel...(https://www.airbnb.com/)**
