Freedom of the Road

"In a Westerly direction, this car is my train. I'm driving and I'm wonderin' what it is I'm runnin' from again"

9/12/15

Drove through Glacier National Park along Going-to-the-Sun Road. Along the route you can see remnants from the Reynolds Creek Fire. Even though it's "Glacier" National Park, there aren't really any glaciers left...but according to some, global warming doesn't exist...And FYI, it was 80'F in September in northern Montana (almost Canada), up in the mountains...(the average is 64-68'F)

Drove past Flathead Lake and stopped at Mission Mountain Winery. While passing through Lakeside, saw that they were having the Montana Dragon Boat Festival - looked a little too crowded for me, though, to stop. Passed through Lolo National Forest and Idaho Panhandle National Forests. When I arrived in Spokane, went to The Lantern Taphouse for a drink, met some cool people, and happened upon a local music festival - Perry Street Shakedown. Apparently I had just missed Sir Mix-A-Lot the night before...so instead, listened to an americana/bluegrass band from MT - Lil' Smokies.

Had brunch at Old European Breakfast House before hitting the road to Walla Walla - had some delicious Swedish crepes and abelskivers. Some of the people I met last night suggested going to Walla Walla to check out the wineries. Had a delicious dinner at Trattoria Colea.

**I've been using Airbnb some during this trip to find places to stay along the way. If you haven't tried it, check it out for your next trip (even internationally). Usually cheaper than a hotel...and if you have some extra space, rent it out and make some money! (https://www.airbnb.com/)**
